Bye Bye Cooperstown

Well, our trip is coming to a close unfortunately… We had internet access here all weekend; however, I couldn’t locate my camera cord and thought I left it at home… Of course as we were packing up this morning, I found it (funny how that always works out, isn’t it?!)… Anyway, I am back home & depressed… I always get like this after an awesome vacation :(

It took me forever to unpack, do laundry, and all that fun stuff… plus even though I am done grad school, I have to take online graduate courses for work (it never ends), so I had to finish up some homework that was due for submittal tomorrow (ooops!)… so I apologize for the late post…

To sum it up, our trip involved tons of walking (basically were on our feet from 9:30am until 5pm walking around, took a 1 hr break to rest, and headed back out for dinner and more walking)… We got a lot of sleep because basically the whole town (except for a few bars/restaurants) shuts down at 5pm everyday… isn’t that amazing? Maybe because I live outside a big city I am used to everything being available 24/7, but this town, to me, just seems like something out of a movie… I love how they have maintained the “old-fashioned / Victorian” feel of the whole town… We went to many knick-knacky shops, baseball shops, the hall of fame and things of that nature… I didn’t eat like I regularly do, so this post should really be titled “What Not To Eat”… I ate for enjoyment (tons of sweets and no oatmeal!), not for satiety, but on vacation, I let myself do so, as long as I ensure that I got a lot of exercise in (aka walking) so without further adieu (and words) here’s my food… I’m keeping my captions as brief as possible, simply because I’m exhausted :)

PB+J (using Wegman’s awesome natural pb - crushed in store!), 2 clementines, & handful of whole grain Goldfish in car en route to Cooperstown:

At Doubleday Cafe: a couple of mexican nachos (in the spirit of Cino de May), a greek burger (burger with feta, pepperoncini, and onions - didn’t use the dressing featured), and a Miller Lite (sorry, no pic!)… It was double yum!

Dessert back at the Cooperstown B&B:  homemade (right out of the oven) chocolate chip scones - I was in heaven!!

Breakfast @ the b&b… fresh fruit, blueberry yogurt (with some pecans, from trail mix, on top), sausage, couple roasted potatoes, and my first attempt at an egg & cheese quiche… I never had quiche before and was pleasantly impressed… I wouldn’t eat it daily, because it was heavy, but it was yummy to try!

Lunch @ Danny’s Market (if you watched Rachel Ray’s $40 a day in Cooperstown, this place was featured on her show and now I know why) which was AWESOME… I got a hummus, sprout, and roasted red peppers on focaccia bread… everything is homemade there from the bread (AMAZING) to the hummus (GARLICY & AWESOME) to the mozarella (didn’t have it but looked delish) and walking into the store smelled amazing… they even sold Clif bars + Kashi products!  I ate half of this and was stuffed, so I only ate the filling of the other half and didn’t eat the bread…

Just showing you their “work area” (where they make all the sandwiches)… look how fresh + colorful!

Dinner @ “the pit” @ Tunnicliff Inn (spelling?)… baked brie almondine with crushed pecans on top, garlic-honey focaccia and dried apricots (Bill gobbled these up)… we ate about 75% of this… and it definitely satisfied the grilled cheese craving I was having!

Despite eating a lot of foods that I don’t normally eat (read:  semi-unhealthy!), I decided to forgo the french fries that came with my dinner and get veggies on the side!

Here’s me eating my first ever lobster - it was a very interesting experience… excuse the goofy look on my face, I was semi-nervous of making an idiot of myself!

Back @ the b&b, we were greated by the owners with a plate full of yummy cookies and treats right out of the oven… she LOVED to bake + was very good at it :)

Breakfast #2 @ the b&b… coffee with a slice of french toast, half a banana, some fresh watermelon, and a piece of sausage…

I had to go back for 1 last scone (almond) before we left (bad Lindsay, bad!)… It was worth it though!

One last walk to the Hall of Fame before we left :(

On the car ride home, we were starving and had to make a stop… There were not many options driving along the highways in upstate NY so we resorted to Wendy’s… ehhhh…

When I got home, I wasn’t even hungry for dinner… I think the overloading of sweets has gotten to me because I feel quite awful and have a headache :(  This is what I get for eating tons of refined sugar, but I guess since all my treats were homemade, it was better than ordering the sweets at a restaurant… Yes, I’m trying to justify my food choices!!

Ok, well it took me nearly 20 minutes to post all these pics, hope you all enjoyed my brief wrap-up of our fantastic trip!!  Be back tomorrow am for “regular” posts!
